How long has Empire been doing commercial and industrial construction in Sioux Falls?
Empire was founded in 1983. That’s over 40 years of commercial and industrial construction in Sioux Falls and across South Dakota, with projects in parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska as well. In that time, the company has grown from a metal building specialist to a full-service contractor with more than 70 employees and services that cover general contracting, concrete, sitework, development, and building materials.

Empire works across a wide range of project types, including warehouses, manufacturing facilities, industrial buildings, offices, schools, retail spaces, auto dealerships, event centers, and agricultural buildings. Does Empire only build metal buildings?
No. Metal building construction is one part of what Empire does. The company provides full-service general contracting, concrete flatwork and foundations, sitework, development support, and building materials through Empire Lumber. Empire is an authorized Varco Pruden Builder for metal building construction, but most projects draw on several of these services at once.
What geographic area does Empire serve?
Empire is based in Sioux Falls and serves clients across South Dakota, as well as parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. Most projects are in the Sioux Falls metro and surrounding region, where the team has decades of established relationships with local architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

For clients still working through what they need, Empire can be a useful resource from the first conversation.
Does Empire do concrete work for projects outside of its own general contracting?
Yes. Empire’s concrete crews pour foundations, footings, slabs, sidewalks, driveways, and flatwork for Empire-led projects and for outside general contractors in the Sioux Falls area. Empire started self-performing concrete in the 1990s after struggling to find contractors who met its quality standards. It’s now a significant part of the business.
